bookmark_border100% TACO: Trump’s Reckless Tariff on Life-Saving Medicines

Protectionism, White Nationalism, and the Collapse of U.S. Economic Credibility

Donald Trump has just announced one of the most dangerous and reckless policies of his presidency: a 100% tariff on all branded or patented pharmaceutical products, unless the manufacturer is currently building a plant in the United States.

“Starting October 1st, 2025, we will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented Pharmaceutical Product, unless a Company IS BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America,” Trump declared on Truth Social. The tariff exemption would only apply if a company had already broken ground on U.S. facilities.

While generic drugs—representing the majority of U.S. imports—are excluded, the real impact falls on life-saving branded medicines, including cancer treatments, biologics, vaccines, and advanced therapies. Nathalie Moll, director-general of the European pharma lobby EFPIA, warned bluntly: “Tariffs on medicines, however excessive, will create the worst of all worlds. Patients will be denied access to life-saving treatments.”

The pharmaceutical industry had previously been spared from Trump’s earlier “reciprocal tariff” packages, but this announcement breaks with prior commitments made to the EU and other trading partners. The EU’s 15% tariff ceiling deal, which included a “no stacking” clause, now appears to be in jeopardy. Switzerland, despite agreeing to steep tariffs in August, had exempted pharmaceuticals—until now. The UK, lacking any pharma-specific trade agreement, is scrambling for clarity.

In an attempt to appease Washington, drugmakers like AstraZeneca, GSK, Novartis, and Roche have already announced new U.S. investments, though many projects remain in the planning stage. Analysts caution that even these companies could face tariffs until actual construction is underway, leaving them vulnerable to immediate disruption.

Financial markets reflected the uncertainty: AstraZeneca and Roche shares initially fell before recovering. Still, the longer-term threat is not to investors but to patients, who may face higher drug costs, restricted supply, and delayed access to new treatments.

This tariff bombshell highlights the hypocrisy of Trump’s economic nationalism. For years, Trump has attacked foreign countries for subsidizing industries like farming or steel while quietly supporting similar “Trump-socialist” policies at home, including stakes in U.S. Steel, Intel, and other politically favored corporations. His latest tariffs expand this protectionist playbook to essential medicines—a sector where the costs of political gamesmanship are measured not in dollars but in human lives.

The announcement came alongside new tariffs of 25% on imported heavy-duty trucks and 50% on kitchen and bathroom cabinets—further evidence of Trump’s broader war against free trade. Rather than strengthening America’s position, these moves isolate the U.S., alienate allies, undermine credibility, and expose consumers to higher costs across essential goods.

This is not an “America First” policy. It is protectionism and white nationalism masquerading as economic strategy. If enacted, it could mark not only the collapse of Trump’s economic credibility but also the decline of U.S. global leadership. By weaponizing access to life-saving medicine, Trump has crossed a line that could cost lives, destabilize markets, and fracture alliances.

The question now is simple: Will Trump TACO out before America does?

bookmark_borderMicrosoft Cuts Off Israeli Military Unit Over Gaza Surveillance Scandal

September 26, 2025 — A Breaking Human Rights and Technology Story

Israel’s military has been accused of using Microsoft’s cloud platform, Azure, to conduct mass surveillance on millions of Palestinians, feeding into a system of targeted killings, forced displacement, and economic suppression. The surveillance campaign, run largely by Israel’s cyber-intelligence arm Unit 8200, reportedly included real-time monitoring of cell phone calls, location tracking, and mass data harvesting that helped guide Israeli airstrikes and disrupt daily civilian life in Gaza and the West Bank.

After months of mounting evidence and pressure, Microsoft has announced it terminated cloud storage and AI services provided to a unit within the Israeli Ministry of Defence. The company’s president and vice chair, Brad Smith, confirmed the decision in a blog post on Thursday, citing an August 6 investigation by The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call.

Surveillance Powered by Big Tech

The investigation revealed that after a 2021 meeting between Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Unit 8200’s commander Yossi Sariel, Microsoft entered into an agreement to move massive volumes of classified intelligence into its Azure platform. By 2022, Unit 8200 was operating with Azure’s vast storage capacity and machine learning tools, enabling Israel to collect, replay, and analyze the private communications of millions of Palestinians.

Sources from inside Unit 8200 told reporters that this system was directly tied to Israel’s targeted killing program and played a key role in selecting targets for airstrikes. Data was reportedly stored not only in Israel but on Microsoft servers in the Netherlands and Ireland, raising serious concerns about violations of European privacy and data protection laws.

Microsoft’s Limited Action

While Microsoft confirmed some subscriptions had been cancelled — including cloud storage and certain AI tools — Smith declined to name the specific Israeli military units involved. The move comes after Microsoft previously admitted to selling advanced cloud and AI services to the Israeli military following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks. At the time, the company insisted there was “no evidence” its platforms were being used for human rights abuses, though the new review has contradicted those claims.

Even now, critics argue Microsoft’s move is cosmetic at best. Former employee Hossam Nasr, who was among more than a dozen fired or arrested for protesting the company’s complicity in the Gaza war, called the decision “an unprecedented win” but added:

“Microsoft has only disabled a small subset of services to a single unit. The vast majority of its contracts with the Israeli military remain intact.”

War Crimes, Human Rights, and Big Tech

Human rights advocates and international legal experts say the revelations add to growing evidence of systematic war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza and the occupied territories — and the complicity of U.S. tech firms in enabling them. The use of AI to select human targets for assassination, combined with surveillance of an entire population, has been described as “a dystopian experiment in digital apartheid.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Israel is now in talks with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to take over much of the surveillance and data-processing capacity Microsoft is cutting off, raising fears that accountability will be little more than a tech industry shell game.

The Bigger Picture

This episode underscores the increasing entanglement of Silicon Valley with modern warfare, especially in conflicts involving U.S. allies. While Microsoft’s decision marks a rare public rebuke, critics argue it is too little, too late to undo the harm already caused — and that without binding international regulation, big tech companies will continue to serve as silent enablers of war crimes.

Trump’s Complicity in Global War Crimes: Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran
Despite branding himself as a “man of peace,” President Donald Trump’s actions during the first five months of his second term have contributed to a disturbing escalation of global conflict. From enabling brutal regimes to undermining international law, Trump’s role in supporting war crimes across multiple regions—Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran—marks one of the most troubling legacies of any U.S. president in modern history.

Israel and Palestine

Evangelical Christianity and Israel

America’s Secret War in Gaza: U.S. Boots on the Ground in Genocide, Funded by You
If you’re curious about the driving force behind US support for Israel, it’s ironically rooted in Evangelical Christianity. Many Evangelical Christians believe they can hasten the “second coming of Christ” by bringing about the apocalypse. According to their interpretation of the Bible, this involves Israel reclaiming Jerusalem, Jesus returning, and ultimately eliminating all Jews. For numerous “Christian Zionists,” especially influential evangelists aligned with the Republican Party, support for Israel is less about political strategy and more about its supposed role in biblical prophecy. In this worldview, war is not something to be avoided but embraced as a divine necessity—an inevitable and even celebratory step toward Jesus’ rule from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The fate of Jews and Palestinians is, to put it mildly, seen as collateral damage.

bookmark_borderFormer Fed Chairs Unite Against Trump in Defense of Central Bank Independence

by Daniel Brouse
September 25, 2025

On September 25, 2025, a landmark amicus brief was submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court by every living former Chair of the Federal Reserve. The bipartisan group urged the Court to block former President Donald Trump from firing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook while her legal challenge to her removal remains pending.

Defense of Federal Reserve Independence

The brief emphasized that the Federal Reserve’s independence is a cornerstone of the U.S. monetary system. The signatories warned that permitting the executive branch to remove Fed officials without due process would dangerously politicize the central bank, undermine its credibility, and erode public trust in monetary policy.

Protection of Institutional Safeguards

The filing stressed that allowing Trump to proceed with Cook’s removal before her case is resolved would dismantle nearly a century of safeguards Congress established to protect the Fed from political interference. Those protections were deliberately designed to insulate monetary policy from short-term political pressures, ensuring decisions are guided by economic data rather than campaign calculations.

Evidence for Central Bank Independence

The brief cited extensive research showing that independent central banks consistently deliver lower inflation, lower long-term interest rates, and greater financial stability than those subject to direct political control. By contrast, history demonstrates that when political leaders hijack monetary policy, inflation spikes, economic distortions multiply, and the costs of recovery rise steeply.

The Signatories

The brief was signed by an extraordinary coalition of bipartisan economic leaders. Among them were former Fed Chairs Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, and Janet Yellen; former Treasury Secretaries from both Republican and Democratic administrations; former chairs of the White House Council of Economic Advisers; and former Fed Governor Dan Tarullo. The breadth of signatories underscored the depth of consensus in the economic community that the Fed’s independence must be preserved at all costs.

Background on Trump v. Cook

The case stems from Trump’s September 2025 attempt to fire Governor Cook, citing unproven allegations of mortgage fraud predating her service on the Federal Reserve Board. A federal court quickly blocked the firing, ruling that the president had failed to establish sufficient “cause” for removal. The court also noted that the allegations concerned conduct prior to her appointment, making them legally irrelevant to her role at the Fed.

Now before the Supreme Court, the Trump administration is asking for permission to remove Cook while litigation continues. If granted, the decision would set a precedent enabling presidents to summarily remove Fed governors, a move that could radically shift the balance of power between the White House and the nation’s central bank.

Trump’s Response

In characteristic fashion, Trump reacted to the legal setback with a barrage of angry and incoherent remarks, railing against the Fed and its leadership. His statements once again highlighted his deep ignorance of — and hostility toward — basic principles of fiscal and monetary policy. Economists warn that his continued attempts to bend monetary institutions to his will pose an existential threat to both U.S. economic stability and the credibility of global financial markets.

by Daniel Brouse
September 25, 2025

The U.S. government is once again barreling toward a shutdown, and the chaos is entirely of Donald Trump’s making. Despite branding himself a “businessman president,” Trump continues to push policies that baffle economists and devastate the very citizens he claims to represent.

The MAGA movement has ballooned the deficit through reckless spending while simultaneously cutting healthcare assistance for millions of Americans in need of insurance. Now, Trump is refusing to meet with Democratic leaders to even attempt a compromise. The result: a government paralyzed not by fiscal necessity, but by ideology.

I have been warning since Trump first took office that trying to reconstruct the global economy through the lens of white nationalism would end in disaster. Without the intellect of a second grader, Trump has undermined decades of U.S. economic stability in pursuit of grievance politics.

The government is already reeling from the DOGE fiasco, yet Trump’s proposed response is even more dangerous: firing thousands of government employees if a shutdown occurs, under the absurd pretense of “teaching Democrats a lesson.” These tactics are not only cruel—they could be the final nail in the coffin of what is already a failed Trump economy.

Protectionism and white nationalism are not economic strategies. Trade wars with nearly every major economy have shredded American credibility and competitiveness. Trump has violated the Constitution by pushing through the largest regressive tax increase in U.S. history, enriching the wealthy while burdening working families. Meanwhile, his racist, anti-immigration policies are crippling the backbone of American capitalism: population growth. Immigration has accounted for approximately 80% of GDP growth over the last five years—yet Trump insists on cutting off this lifeline.

A shutdown is now looking increasingly inevitable, not because of necessity, but because Trump believes he can spin an economic collapse into a political weapon against the so-called “radical left.” The irony, of course, is that it is the right—through Trump’s recklessness—that is dismantling the very fiscal conservatism it once claimed to uphold. As a fiscally conservative Republican economist, I cannot overstate the damage: Trump is destroying America from within.

PSA: “Killing humor isn’t funny. Kill humor, kill freedom. Not so funny now, is it?”

Nexstar Joins Sinclair in Silencing Jimmy Kimmel’s ABC Return

Disney and ABC have put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air! His first night back drew record viewership, even as dozens of affiliate stations continued enforcing prior censorship. The coordinated actions of Sinclair and Nexstar appear politically motivated—driven by pressure from Trump-aligned officials, including the FCC, and by Nexstar’s commercial interest in securing approval for its proposed $6.2 billion acquisition of TEGNA, announced in August 2025 and still awaiting FCC sign-off. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr even went so far as to threaten ABC’s license, saying, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Equally significant is Sinclair’s overt alignment with far-right MAGA politics. Together, these factors created powerful incentives for strategic censorship—and that is exactly what we witnessed.

ABC/Disney, however, do not appear to be part of the same collusion. ABC initially pulled the show under intense affiliate and regulatory pressure, then reversed course to bring Kimmel back—suggesting a response to coercion, not conspiracy. Whether ABC should have held firm from the start is debatable, but their actions triggered public pushback and mobilized resistance. That pushback—including advertiser pressure and widespread outrage—likely did far more to protect free speech than quiet capitulation or permanently pulling Kimmel ever would have. ABC proved that active resistance works.

This situation mirrors CBS’s experience but now involves ABC affiliates. Sinclair is a massive MAGA operation, and Ellison is equally extreme. ABC affiliates owned by Nexstar are tied to the pending TEGNA acquisition. For context, Paramount Global—the parent of CBS and its owned-and-operated stations—was recently acquired by Skydance Media in a deal approved by the FCC in July 2025. The new owners, Oracle’s far-right MAGA billionaires the Ellisons, are also working to fold TikTok into the broader MAGA media propaganda machine. Trump’s pattern is unmistakable: silence Stephen Colbert on CBS and Jimmy Kimmel on ABC. In an obvious quid pro quo, CBS and ABC were forced to capitulate—or risk the FCC denying mergers and acquisitions, or even revoking broadcast licenses—an unmistakable case of mob-style extortion at the highest levels of government. Not to be overlooked, Trump has already extorted millions from both ABC and CBS through personal lawsuits.

The Choice to Raise Your Voice

Make the choice to raise your voice! Just say NO! to censorship. This is about silencing opposition. This is about killing comedy before it can mock power — and make no mistake, satire has always been the sharpest blade in democracy’s arsenal — democracy’s secret weapon.

That’s why tyrants fear it, that’s why dictators ban it, and that’s why Trump is trying to kill it. Humor exposes lies. Humor punctures egos. Humor topples emperors who think they wear clothes.

Long live comedy. Long live satire. It’s time for all of us to pick up the torch and rise. Sharpen your wit, wield your words, and refuse to be silenced.

Here’s How You Can Fight Back

Nexstar has now joined Sinclair in refusing to air Jimmy Kimmel’s return on ABC.

✅ What you can do:

→ Tune in tonight — check if your local newscast is on when Kimmel should be airing.

→ Take notes — if your local news is airing instead of Jimmy, jot down the companies advertising during the broadcast.

→ Take action — call those companies and tell them you’ll boycott until they stop funding Sinclair and Nexstar’s censorship.

Trumpenomics: The Decline of America

bookmark_borderResistance 101

by C. Moore
September 23, 2025

I’ve been getting a flood of questions about how to resist the Trump Regime: “What can I do?” in the midst of growing feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. My answer: focus on your strengths. Build a strong individual plan. Be resourceful. And sharpen your wits — because wit is often the best weapon.

The Censorship Example

As an investigative journalist with decades of experience defending the First Amendment, I’ve faced threats, targeted attacks, assaults by both criminals and police, fines, arrests, jail time, and years of court battles. Yet never — not once — have I seen anything as alarming as what is happening today. I’m furious at the erosion of our First Amendment rights, and I’m returning to my roots. In protest of this assault on free speech — and in solidarity with Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and the countless journalists silenced worldwide this year — I’m returning to my roots: sharp-witted satire. Words are swords, and comedy is our shield. That’s why tyrants fear it, why dictators ban it, and why Trump is trying to kill it. Humor exposes lies, punctures egos, and topples emperors who think they wear clothes.

During one period when I was illegally detained, silenced, and stripped of my rights, I adopted the pseudonym Mootmute. My lawyer was on speed dial, and I even had a plan to publish from jail. The name itself became a symbol of resistance. As they tried to turn me into a moot mute, I turned their strategy back on them. As I often say: hold up your sword and stand firm. If they continue to impale themselves on your defensive position, so be it.

Another form of resistance was publicly exposing their hypocrisy. For amusement and effect, while under oath I asked prosecutors what I wasn’t allowed to say. Their response? They wheeled in file cabinets overflowing with papers they themselves had published and read, line by line, everything that was now forbidden as “speech.” And so the name Mootmute stuck. They tried to silence me, but instead they became my unwitting mouthpiece, committing the very crime they accused me of.

Expanding the Resistance

In addition to the personal defiance above, I found other ways to resist oppression. While I was under attack, my publishing company — and the entities that had licensed my intellectual property — also became targets. To protect the innocent, I created a new publishing company. Much like Prince, who famously changed his name to a symbol when stripped of his own, I adopted a symbol too — only mine was crafted from ASCII characters and represented “the finger.” The irony was delicious: every time prosecutors wheeled in stacks of paper and read the forbidden words into the record, each page carried my publishing company’s logo at the bottom. The very emblem of defiance they sought to erase stared back at them from their own exhibits.

For added effect — and a touch of legal one-upmanship — I included a copyright notice on every page:

“These pages and their content may not be used without our expressed written consent. Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed under the law.”

In their zeal to prosecute me, they inadvertently committed yet another offense: publishing my work without consent while declaring in court that no one was allowed to say what they themselves had just published.

Conclusion

So, “What can I do?” in the face of rising helplessness and hopelessness? Focus on your strengths. Develop a solid, individual plan. Be resourceful. And hone your wit — because wit is often your sharpest weapon and, in some cases, may literally save your life.

bookmark_borderMortgage Fraud Allegations Against Treasury Secretary Deepen Concerns Over Trump’s Economic Credibility

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously signed agreements to claim two different properties as his “principal residence” at the same time, according to Bloomberg News. Such an arrangement is strikingly similar to what President Donald Trump himself has labeled “mortgage fraud” — a charge he has recently weaponized in his unprecedented attempt to oust Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.

The revelation has amplified concerns about the credibility and reliability of the Trump administration’s economic leadership. At the very moment when Trump is undermining the independence of the Federal Reserve, his own Treasury Secretary is accused of conduct that mirrors the very behavior Trump claims to oppose.

The contradiction could not be sharper: while Trump is pressuring the Fed for political gain, his top economic official faces accusations that raise serious questions about both judgment and integrity. Markets depend on trust in the U.S. financial system and the independence of its key institutions. When both are compromised simultaneously, confidence can unravel quickly.

These allegations go beyond personal misconduct. They call into question the broader economic agenda of the Trump administration — from reciprocal tariffs and nationalized industries to pressure campaigns against the Fed. If the administration’s credibility erodes further, the U.S. risks higher borrowing costs, weakening investor confidence, and diminished standing as a reliable economic partner on the global stage.

In short, the combination of political interference at the Fed and allegations of mortgage fraud at Treasury threatens to shake the very foundation of U.S. economic governance. For markets already jittery about slowing growth, sticky inflation, and rising debt, this latest scandal is another reminder of just how precarious America’s economic credibility has become under Trump.

bookmark_borderAmerica First, America Hurt: How Trump’s Trade War and Immigration Crackdowns Are Backfiring

The Trump tariff-driven global trade war and anti-immigration agenda are already proving to be an economic disaster for the United States. What was promised as a strategy to “rebuild American strength” is instead triggering a slowdown marked by weakening growth, collapsing job markets, rising inflation, declining wage gains, and a dollar under pressure. To make matters worse, the Federal Reserve’s independence is increasingly under political threat — a dangerous precedent for global markets that depend on U.S. monetary stability.

Ironically, the loudest supporters of Trump’s “America First” policies — farmers and rural voters — are among the hardest hit. U.S. agriculture, once a dependable pillar of American exports, is facing its harshest season in decades. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed this week that the USDA is working with Congress to consider emergency aid for farmers this autumn, citing both the fallout from ongoing trade disputes and record-high yields that now have nowhere to go.

Soybeans, in particular, illustrate the crisis. In 2024, the U.S. shipped an estimated $12.8 billion worth of soybeans to China, accounting for roughly 25% of all U.S. exports, according to the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. But for the 2025–2026 crop year, China has placed zero new soybean orders. That loss is catastrophic not just for Midwestern farmers, but for the entire trade balance, rural economies, and the global credibility of U.S. agricultural markets.

Adding to the irony is the sheer hypocrisy of Trump’s trade policy. His administration has justified sweeping tariffs as retaliation against “unfair trade practices,” particularly government subsidies supporting farmers in Japan, China, India, Canada, and across the EU. Yet, at the very same time, Trump has expanded U.S. subsidies to American farmers as emergency aid and even directed taxpayer-backed stakes in major corporations such as U.S. Steel and Intel — a patchwork of protectionism critics have dubbed “Trump-socialism.” What he condemns abroad, he quietly embraces at home, undermining his own argument while fueling the very distortions in global markets he claims to oppose.

The ripple effects extend beyond farms. Supply chains tied to agricultural equipment, transportation, and processing are already scaling back. Rural banks are bracing for a wave of loan defaults. Meanwhile, anti-immigration crackdowns are worsening labor shortages in both farming and food production, pushing costs up while productivity drops.

In short, Trump’s trade and immigration policies are backfiring — leaving the very communities that rallied hardest for “America First” paying the steepest price. The irony is brutal: instead of strengthening the U.S., these policies are isolating it, damaging trust with trading partners, and undermining the very foundation of American economic stability.

Trumpenomics: The Decline of America

bookmark_borderEconomic Outlook: Weak Jobs, Declining Incomes, and a Shrinking Population

by Daniel Brouse
September 11, 2025

PART I: Inflation Persists While Job Market Shows Signs of Weakness

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the August 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report today, September 11, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. ET. Headline CPI rose 0.2% for the month and 2.7% year-over-year, while core CPI—excluding food and energy—also increased 0.2% monthly and 3.1% annually, matching analysts’ expectations.

On the surface, the numbers look steady, but the context tells a more troubling story. Core inflation remains well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, and new revisions to recent labor data show that the U.S. job market is significantly weaker than previously thought. Payroll gains reported earlier this year have been revised downward, and the most recent hiring data show that job growth is slowing more sharply than anticipated.

This shift matters for two reasons. First, it suggests that the U.S. economy is losing momentum more quickly than headline figures had implied. Second, it leaves the Fed in a tightening bind: with inflation running hot, policymakers cannot easily pivot to rate cuts, yet with jobs softening, higher interest rates risk tipping the economy into recession.

Yesterday’s Producer Price Index (PPI) release underscored the economic strain. Businesses are facing higher costs from tariffs and slowing consumer demand, forcing margins down more than 12% on an annualized basis. Today’s CPI data confirm that inflation remains sticky, suggesting households will continue to feel pressure even as the job market deteriorates.

Taken together, these reports signal that the U.S. may be entering a period of slowing growth, weakening employment, and persistent inflationary pressure—a dangerous combination that risks sliding into stagflation.

The coming months will test whether the Fed can balance its dual mandate of stable prices and maximum employment. But with inflation still above target and the labor market finally showing cracks, the path forward looks increasingly precarious.

PART II: America’s Looming Economic Storm

Today’s soft jobs report revealed the sharpest labor market slowdown in four years, with employment growth decelerating rapidly. Compounding the bleak outlook was a steep drop in income growth—one of the sharpest declines in recent memory. With wages falling behind while prices continue to rise, American consumers are being squeezed harder than ever, making it increasingly difficult to sustain spending and household stability.

Despite these flashing warning signs, the stock market appears largely unfazed. Investors are clinging to hopes that the Federal Reserve will deliver interest rate cuts, prioritizing short-term relief from lower borrowing costs over the troubling reality of rising core inflation. This disconnect between market optimism and economic fundamentals is risky at best—and delusional at worst.

Beyond the immediate pressures of inflation and stagnating wages, the U.S. faces a much deeper structural threat: demographics. Preliminary data and forecasts now suggest that the U.S. population could begin to decline as early as 2031—years sooner than many experts anticipated. If realized, this would mark the first population decline in American history.

The underlying drivers are well-documented. Birth rates have been trending downward for decades, but recent anti-immigration policies have sharply curtailed net migration—the other key driver of population growth. With population growth already flat in recent years, these converging forces are pushing the U.S. toward demographic contraction.

The economic consequences would be profound. A shrinking labor force will constrain growth, reduce productivity, and strain public finances. Social Security and Medicare are particularly vulnerable, as both depend on a continually expanding base of younger workers to support an aging population. A declining population would accelerate their insolvency, forcing either painful benefit cuts, massive tax increases, or outright failure of the programs that millions of Americans depend on.

Taken together, the combination of a slowing labor market, falling incomes, rising inflation, and looming demographic decline points to a far more fragile U.S. economy than current market sentiment suggests. Without corrective policy action, America could soon be facing not just cyclical economic pain, but a generational crisis that undermines the very foundation of its prosperity.

bookmark_borderCATL’s New EV Battery Highlights U.S. Lag in the Global Electric Vehicle Race

by Daniel Brouse
September 9, 2025

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL) is a leading Chinese manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems. Headquartered in Ningde, China, the company has become a dominant player in the global battery market, underscoring the challenges facing the U.S. in the EV and battery industries. CATL exemplifies how U.S. trade and industrial policies have allowed foreign competitors to pull far ahead, leaving American manufacturers struggling to keep pace.

CATL unveiled a groundbreaking new EV battery for the European market, the “Shenxing Pro.” The battery is based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and comes in two specialized versions designed to meet Europe’s diverse EV demands.

The first version, a long-life model, is engineered to last up to 12 years or 1 million kilometers. It offers an impressive maximum driving range of 758 kilometers—far exceeding the typical 300-to-500 kilometers delivered by conventional LFP batteries. The second version focuses on rapid charging, enabling drivers to add 478 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes of charging, a feature that could dramatically reduce downtime for EV users.

CATL’s innovations highlight not only the rapid technological advances in the global battery industry but also the competitive gap that U.S. manufacturers face. While Chinese companies like CATL push the boundaries of battery range, longevity, and charging speed, U.S. policy and production constraints have limited domestic capacity, leaving American EV makers increasingly dependent on foreign supply chains for critical battery technology.

As Europe becomes a key battleground for EV adoption, CATL’s new battery underscores the strategic importance of investing in domestic battery production and technology development to ensure the U.S. remains competitive in the rapidly evolving global EV market.
