My Original Report:

Scott McElree is the only town manager in Bucks County who is also police chief. He handles public records requests, too.

The potential lawsuits against him and the Borough of Quakertown could be enormous. Allegations of failing to identify himself, not wearing a uniform, using force against minors, and detaining them for days could expose the municipality to significant civil liability. The financial and legal consequences may be substantial.

I’ve been involved in investigating similar cases, and the conduct described are likely federal civil rights violations. I’m not sure how many children were involved but I’m guessing there are multiple counts.

There may be one small piece of good news here. When I investigated a similar case in Doylestown involving an adult who was tased multiple times without justification, the officer was represented by the union, and the additional legal protections significantly increased costs to taxpayers. Then, it hit me… he’s the Chief… he’s not in the union.

CONCLUSION

The best outcome for everyone involved would likely be for him to resign and for the Borough to reach a prompt settlement with the plaintiffs.

I have not even begun to calculate the financial exposure associated with this occurring during a publicly announced peaceful protest. Having worked with First Amendment litigation, I can say that the cost of defending this type of conduct would likely be substantial.

In addition, the District Attorney has launched an investigation into potential criminal charges, which further increases the legal and financial risks facing the Borough.

UPDATE

I wanted to wait for the evidence before framing it politically, but this very clearly appears to rise to the level of a hate crime, along with multiple civil liberties violations. There are already quite a few ACLU lawyers involved, and it looks systemic across the entire Quakertown Police Department. Since the Chief is also the Town Manager, this could indicate a borough-wide conspiracy coming under scrutiny. The scope of potential crimes is staggering, making it all the more critical that justice is served. Some of these violations could carry many years in prison— attacking and jailing kids? The evidence is brutal.

I first became aware of the attack on the morning of February 21. I obtained a video of the incident and was able to verify its authenticity within an hour. The footage shows an adult male charging into a group of children participating in a peaceful anti-ICE protest in Quakertown, PA. Initially, it was unclear who the individual was—he was seen wearing a brown shirt and violently placing a protester in a chokehold, appearing to act as a counter-protester.

Several hours later, further investigation revealed the male to be Scott McElree, the Chief of Police. After this identification, the investigation progressed more quickly, as a significant amount of publicly available information became accessible. It is important to note that decades of experience in investigative journalism were essential in accurately documenting and analyzing this incident.

According to reports, the segment had already been fully vetted and cleared by CBS legal counsel. Yet it was still pulled. The journalist involved described the decision as “political.”

That distinction matters.

When a story is cleared by lawyers but killed by executives for political reasons, it is not editorial judgment — it is censorship.

This was not an isolated decision. It fits a clear and escalating pattern under Trump:

ABC/Disney, however, do not appear to be part of the same collusion. ABC initially pulled the show under intense affiliate and regulatory pressure, then reversed course to bring Kimmel back—suggesting a response to coercion, not conspiracy. Whether ABC should have held firm from the start is debatable, but their actions triggered public pushback and mobilized resistance. That pushback—including advertiser pressure and widespread outrage—likely did far more to protect free speech than quiet capitulation or permanently pulling Kimmel ever would have. ABC proved that active resistance works.

This situation mirrors CBS’s experience but now involves ABC affiliates. Sinclair is a massive MAGA operation, and Ellison is equally extreme. ABC affiliates owned by Nexstar are tied to the pending TEGNA acquisition. For context, Paramount Global—the parent of CBS and its owned-and-operated stations—was recently acquired by Skydance Media in a deal approved by the FCC in July 2025. The new owners, Oracle’s far-right MAGA billionaires the Ellisons, are also working to fold TikTok into the broader MAGA media propaganda machine. Trump’s pattern is unmistakable: silence Stephen Colbert on CBS and Jimmy Kimmel on ABC. In an obvious quid pro quo, CBS and ABC were forced to capitulate—or risk the FCC denying mergers and acquisitions, or even revoking broadcast licenses—an unmistakable case of mob-style extortion at the highest levels of government. Not to be overlooked, Trump has already extorted millions from both ABC and CBS through personal lawsuits.

The Choice to Raise Your Voice

Make the choice to raise your voice! Just say NO! to censorship. This is about silencing opposition. This is about killing comedy before it can mock power — and make no mistake, satire has always been the sharpest blade in democracy’s arsenal — democracy’s secret weapon.

That’s why tyrants fear it, that’s why dictators ban it, and that’s why Trump is trying to kill it. Humor exposes lies. Humor punctures egos. Humor topples emperors who think they wear clothes.

Since his return to power, Trump has wasted no time weaponizing the legal system against his perceived enemies — especially the press. Major networks like ABC, CBS, and even independent journalists are drowning under an endless barrage of lawsuits. Doesn’t anyone in the United States realize the U.S. now has boots on the ground in Gaza, participating directly in genocide. Under President Trump, a private military force disguised as a “humanitarian” organization has been deployed, with American citizens in combat roles actively shooting unarmed, starving men, women, and children who are desperately seeking aid.

I think this denialism has mostly to do with the fear of appearing antisemitic. Trump has launched a coordinated intimidation campaign specifically designed to silence anti-genocide voices, labeling any criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza as antisemitism to shut down debate and dissent.

On top of that, many in the Jewish community have grown up surrounded by misinformation and false narratives that equate supporting human rights for Palestinians with hating Jewish people. I’ve had many Jewish friends—who don’t even realize that I’m Semitic myself—call me out for expressing these views, accusing me of being antisemitic when, in reality, I’m standing against genocide and for the dignity of all people.

We also need to focus on the Christian Zionists who are really driving this agenda. Shireen Abu Akleh, a prominent Palestinian-American journalist and a Christian, was executed on May 11, 2022, while covering an Israeli raid in Jenin in the occupied West Bank, illustrating that Israel’s violence extends beyond Palestinians of Muslim faith to Christians and others who stand in the way of its expansionist policies.

This war on journalism is not isolated to Israel. Donald Trump has similarly declared war on the free press. His administration targeted major news outlets with lawsuits and public attacks, labeling journalists as “enemies of the people.” Lawsuits have been launched against CBS, ABC, and other respected news organizations in attempts to intimidate and silence critical reporting. The Associated Press was banned from White House press briefings, signaling an unprecedented level of hostility toward transparency and accountability.

When leaders fear journalists, it is because the truth threatens their power. Freedom of speech and a free press are non-negotiable pillars of any society that claims to value democracy and human rights. Silencing journalists and criminalizing the reporting of war crimes and government abuses are the hallmarks of authoritarian regimes, not democratic nations.

These attacks on journalism are not merely about controlling the narrative; they are about erasing accountability for genocide, apartheid, and crimes against humanity. I recently encountered a fascinating twist in the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and intellectual property. After releasing several thousand AI-generated songs via an international distributor to platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and others, I was notified that one of my tracks was being held up. The reason? The system had flagged the release as containing content generated by an AI service.

Apparently, because the AI platform I used requires a paid subscription in order for users to retain copyright ownership, the distributor needed proof of my subscription. Once I provided the necessary documentation, the release was approved and is now being distributed worldwide. Problem solved—for now.

But this incident raises a number of important questions:

  • Why did it take so long for them to notice? Thousands of songs had already been accepted and released without issue. What changed?

  • How exactly did they identify the AI service? Was it metadata, audio fingerprinting, or something else entirely?

  • Why is a distribution platform enforcing the licensing terms of an AI company? That’s typically the domain of contract law and not something you’d expect a music distributor to adjudicate.

  • And most importantly: If I compose the music, write the lyrics, and even perform live instruments—regardless of whether I use AI as a tool—why don’t I automatically own the copyright?

This scenario highlights a curious inconsistency: using AI to generate music isn’t fundamentally different from using digital audio workstations like Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or other virtual tools for engineering, mastering, and production. In both cases, you’re leveraging software to aid the creative process. So why is AI being treated differently?

It’s clear we’re entering uncharted legal territory. As AI continues to become more embedded in creative workflows, questions around ownership, authorship, and licensing are going to get much more complex—and much more urgent.

The industry, creators, and lawmakers all need to catch up quickly. Until then, those of us creating at the frontier will need to navigate a maze of evolving rules, obscure policies, and surprising roadblocks.

One thing is certain: The future of intellectual property in the age of AI is going to be anything but boring.

My main point is that I can afford to pay for the software. Many artists can’t. The real issue is that AI is just the latest in a long line of technological innovations in music. And with every major leap—whether it was multi-track recording, synthesizers, or digital production—there have always been gatekeepers in the industry trying to control access and drive up costs. It’s a way to maintain monopolies and keep independent or less wealthy artists from competing.

I’ve spent my career challenging that model. I helped pioneer the digital home recording studio, and later bypassed traditional distribution entirely by launching the first record label on the web. That made it possible to create and share music globally for almost nothing. It disrupted the industry and helped thousands of independent artists find an audience without the backing of a major label. (And, it is the reason I can now afford to pay for an AI subscription.)

The involvement of AI doesn’t change that fundamental fact. If there’s any legal argument to be made against my ownership, it would most likely revolve around the concept of “work for hire.”

The “work for hire” doctrine has been at the center of numerous high-profile copyright disputes. This legal principle determines whether the creator of a work owns the copyright—or whether the rights belong to the entity that commissioned or employed the creator. For instance:

  • In Community for Creative Non-Violence v. Reid (1989), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a sculptor hired to create a statue was not an employee, and therefore retained the copyright, because the relationship did not meet the criteria for a work-for-hire arrangement.

It’s a world where emotional resonance trumps logic, and where market forces, social movements, and sheer randomness collide to define success. I should know—I put the first record company on the internet back in 1992.

Since then, I’ve published tens of thousands of songs, streamed music before Spotify was a concept, and held one of the largest collections of privately owned music copyrights in the world. Yet, for all my experience, I’ve never correctly predicted which song would become a hit.

My first “viral” success was, quite frankly, a mistake. In the early 90s, while experimenting with Napster, I connected my studio hard drive to the platform and unintentionally released a song I didn’t even like—a song about vomiting, of all things. It hadn’t been officially released. It was raw, odd, and completely unintentional. But somehow, it resonated, racking up over a million downloads and becoming our most listened-to track at the time.

That was my first taste of something every honest artist eventually learns: we are terrible judges of our own work.

Over the years, accidental hits became a pattern. Time and again, songs I barely believed in found audiences I never imagined. But none were as politically charged—or culturally ironic—as one that took off in 2024.

In June of that year, I released a song titled “Bozo the Rodeo Clown.” It was a satirical critique of the rural, conservative subculture I grew up in—one that, in my experience, too often glorifies ignorance and cruelty.
