A Justice Department that now resembles a political death squad is carrying out these vendettas. The question is no longer “will someone stop him?” but “is there anyone left who can?”

Yet before the facts could be sorted out, political leaders rushed to spin the event for their own purposes. The FBI initially claimed that the shooter had been apprehended, a statement later proven false. The agency’s credibility has already been under strain, and such glaring missteps only deepen public mistrust. Into this uncertainty, Donald Trump seized the moment—stoking further division by casting the killing as the work of the “radical left” and implicitly blaming Democrats as a whole.

In the wake of the death, the administration’s response has been anything but neutral. Trump ordered all U.S. flags to be flown at half-mast, while Vice President Vance arranged for the extremist’s casket to be flown aboard Air Force Two. Trump went further, declaring that the deceased would be awarded the Medal of Freedom—one of the nation’s highest civilian honors.

The silence underscores a troubling double standard in how violence is acknowledged and politicized.

Further undermining both Trump’s and the FBI’s credibility was the decision to withhold news of the suspect’s capture until Trump could personally announce it on FOX. Withholding critical information of this magnitude to serve a political narrative is not just manipulative — it’s dangerous. In a functioning democracy, the public has a right to timely and transparent updates, especially in the aftermath of violent attacks that cause fear and uncertainty. When leaders prioritize political theater over truth, it erodes public trust, fuels conspiracy theories, and weakens institutions designed to safeguard society. Worse, the global community watches these actions, measuring America’s integrity by how its leaders handle moments of crisis. Every delay or distortion to score political points diminishes U.S. credibility abroad and sends the message that political gain outweighs accountability and truth.

America now stands at a dangerous crossroads. The lines between legitimate political discourse and violent extremism are being intentionally blurred. Institutions once trusted to uphold the rule of law are faltering, while political leaders exploit tragedy to inflame anger and deepen divisions. Unless this trajectory is reversed, the normalization of extremism as heroism could push the country toward even greater unrest—and a level of political violence not seen in generations.

What was once viewed as a slow-moving process unfolding over millennia is now accelerating at a pace that outstrips scientific projections. Why 270 Feet Is “The Safe Minimum”

Our estimate of 270 feet as the “safe” elevation to live is conservative. High tides, waves, storm surge, and coastal flooding make it unsafe to live anywhere below that elevation in the long run. Even at 270 feet, hazards persist:

  • Biohazards: As the waters overtake sewage plants, landfills, farms, and industrial sites, contamination will make coastal waters toxic.

To understand unordered systems, you must “zoom out.” Imagine standing in the eye of a hurricane, unable to grasp its structure from within, then pulling back to see the swirling system from a satellite view. Only then can you perceive its shape, patterns, and momentum. Climate science and economics share this paradox: from within, the chaos feels incomprehensible, but from a higher vantage, the pattern is clear.

I offer this perspective to help you grasp the critical reality of where we stand today:

Doesn’t anyone in the United States realize the U.S. now has boots on the ground in Gaza, participating directly in genocide. Under President Trump, a private military force disguised as a “humanitarian” organization has been deployed, with American citizens in combat roles actively shooting unarmed, starving men, women, and children who are desperately seeking aid.

I think this denialism has mostly to do with the fear of appearing antisemitic. Trump has launched a coordinated intimidation campaign specifically designed to silence anti-genocide voices, labeling any criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza as antisemitism to shut down debate and dissent.

On top of that, many in the Jewish community have grown up surrounded by misinformation and false narratives that equate supporting human rights for Palestinians with hating Jewish people. I’ve had many Jewish friends—who don’t even realize that I’m Semitic myself—call me out for expressing these views, accusing me of being antisemitic when, in reality, I’m standing against genocide and for the dignity of all people.

We also need to focus on the Christian Zionists who are really driving this agenda. Many don’t realize that Trump, Stephen Miller, and the MAGA movement are not working to protect Jewish people; they are pushing an extremist Christian Zionist ideology that views the mass extermination of Jews as part of their prophecy to bring about the “Second Coming” and the “End Times.” They are using Israel and weaponizing Jewish communities for their own apocalyptic agenda, and in reality, their long-term goal is the elimination of Jews, not their protection.

We need to separate criticism of a government’s actions from hatred of a people. Standing against ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and mass murder should never be confused with bigotry. The fact that it so often is reflects how deeply these false narratives have taken hold in our society—and how urgently we need to challenge them.
