The reason there is so little rare earth mining in the U.S. today is precisely because it is extremely toxic and deadly, leaving behind giant hazardous waste zones and radioactive tailings that poison water, soil, and air. The processing pools used to extract rare earth elements generate massive amounts of waste, including radioactive elements and heavy metals, creating long-term contamination risks for surrounding communities and ecosystems. By ramping up domestic rare earth production under the banner of “national security,” the U.S. risks creating sacrifice zones on its own soil, prioritizing military and economic aims over public health and environmental safety.

Why This Matters:

State Control Disguised as National Security:
While ensuring supply chains for critical materials is important, the mechanism here is effectively a nationalization of production without calling it that. This blurs the line between private enterprise and state control.

Distortion of Free Markets:
By injecting government capital, guarantees, and direction into specific companies, the Pentagon is picking winners and losers, undermining competition, and creating an uneven playing field.

Contradictions in U.S. Economic Policy:
The same government that lectures other nations about privatization and free-market reforms is now orchestrating the domestic economy to suit geopolitical goals. This hypocrisy undermines trust in U.S. policy abroad and at home.

Militarization of the Economy:
Securing rare earths for weapons and defense applications further expands the military-industrial complex, channeling public resources into war readiness rather than prioritizing civilian infrastructure, climate adaptation, or social needs.

Environmental Impact:

An example of the devastating consequences of rare earth mining can be witnessed in China, which currently dominates global rare earth mining and processing. Entire villages have become uninhabitable due to toxic waste, radioactive runoff, and air and water contamination caused by processing operations. Black sludge-filled lakes, poisoned farmland, and cancer clusters have become common in these regions, demonstrating the catastrophic cost of rare earth extraction when environmental protections are weak or ignored. If the U.S. pushes forward with domestic rare earth production without strict environmental safeguards, it risks replicating these sacrifice zones within its own borders, harming communities and ecosystems in the name of “security” and economic competition.

A Question for Policymakers:

If “privatization” only applies when it benefits corporate profits, but “nationalization” becomes acceptable when it serves military interests, what kind of economy are we really building?

GHF is a private corporation established in Delaware in coordination with Trump, functioning as a heavily armed private security force under the guise of humanitarian assistance.

GHF uses aid as a weapon while simultaneously starving the population it claims to serve. Reports from the ground indicate that while Palestinians are forced into “aid lines” under siege conditions, GHF personnel have been actively executing hundreds of unarmed women and children seeking food and water. This systematic violence and deprivation are clear violations of the Genocide Convention and the Fourth Geneva Convention, yet they continue with the backing of U.S. political leaders and taxpayer dollars.

The strategy is deliberate: starve, displace, and terrorize Gaza’s population while consolidating control under the false narrative of “humanitarian intervention.” Meanwhile, the push for more funding underlines the hypocrisy of U.S. foreign policy, where resources are channeled not to save lives but to facilitate forced displacement and extermination under the banner of “security.”

Netanyahu’s meetings with congressional leaders and Trump are not about ceasefire negotiations—they are about scaling up the infrastructure of genocide while shielding themselves from accountability. Each day this alliance continues, the human toll in Gaza grows, and the moral standing of the United States further erodes.

It is critical to expose the reality of GHF’s operations and the broader agenda being orchestrated between Netanyahu and Trump. Aid cannot be used as a weapon. Starvation cannot be disguised as policy. Extrajudicial executions cannot be covered up under the label of “security.” The world must recognize and resist this escalating campaign of ethnic cleansing before it becomes an irreversible stain on the global conscience.

Trump’s approach represents a dangerous escalation of policies that violate international law and basic human rights. Forced deportations of immigrants from the U.S., many of whom have lived here for years or even decades with deep family and community ties, will tear apart families and communities under the false promise of “security.” Simultaneously, the attempt to depopulate Gaza and relocate Palestinians constitutes a violation of the Genocide Convention and the Fourth Geneva Convention, making these actions clear crimes against humanity.

Hydroclimate whiplash describes the extreme swings between severe droughts and catastrophic floods, a phenomenon intensified by climate change. Another term, Drought-Flood Abrupt Alternation (DFAA), highlights how these sudden shifts compound the vulnerability of communities already stretched thin by recurring climate disasters.

In the past week alone, the United States has experienced a cascade of what were once considered “100- to 1,000-year floods,” devastating communities in Texas, New Mexico, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal dumped 8–12 inches of rain in just a few hours, producing what is being described as a “1,000-year flood event.” Streets turned into rivers, homes and businesses were inundated, and emergency crews scrambled to conduct water rescues as flash floods swept through the area.

In Texas, over 100 people died during a catastrophic flooding event classified as a “500-year flood.” Entire neighborhoods were swallowed by rapidly rising waters, and the damage to infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods will be felt for years to come.

Events like these, once deemed exceedingly rare, are now disturbingly common in our rapidly warming world. In the 1990s, we first hypothesized the non-linear acceleration of climate change. By the early 2000s, this hypothesis evolved into an established climate theory, now widely recognized in scientific circles. My lab partner, a Doctor of Physics from Ohio State, and I provided key evidence underpinning this theory, documenting the dramatic reduction in the doubling time of climate impacts—the rate at which these effects intensify. Initially, the doubling time was around 100 years; it has since shrunk to 10 years, and more recently to as little as 2 years.

This means that the climate-driven damage we see today is double what it was just two years ago, and if trends continue, it will be four times worse in another two years, eight times worse in four years, and potentially 64 times worse within a decade. These are conservative estimates, assuming the doubling period does not shrink further. If the trajectory holds, the consequences will be far more catastrophic than previously anticipated.

The physics of a warming planet explains why this is happening. For every 1°C (1.8°F) increase in global temperatures, the atmosphere can hold about 7% more water vapor, fueling heavier rainfall and violent downpours. What was once a “1,000-year flood” is now a 10-year event in many regions, as we witnessed this week.

Violent rain, however, is just one aspect of the escalating climate crisis. Warming oceans, disrupted jet streams, and intensified atmospheric rivers are sharply increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather globally. Communities across Texas, North Carolina, and beyond are already living with the reality of these mounting human and economic costs as the climate crisis transforms once-rare “freak events” into the new normal.

It is no longer a question of if these impacts will worsen, but how fast. The window to prepare and adapt is rapidly closing, while the storms—and their consequences—are arriving faster than our systems can handle.

We face an accelerating climate emergency that threatens to overwhelm not just our economy, but the physical conditions required for human survival. Our  climate model —  incorporating complex social-ecological feedback loops within a dynamic, nonlinear system–projects that global temperatures could rise by up to 9°C (16.2°F) within this century. This far exceeds earlier projections, which estimated a 4°C rise over the next thousand years, and signals a dramatic acceleration of planetary warming.

At this level of heating, vast regions of the Earth will become uninhabitable due to a combination of extreme temperatures, sea level rise, agricultural collapse, and mass migration. Crucially, parts of the United States are already experiencing wet-bulb temperatures approaching or exceeding 31°C (87.8°F)–a physiological threshold beyond which the human body can no longer regulate internal temperature, even in the shade with unlimited access to water. This makes extended outdoor exposure potentially fatal.

This is no longer a distant or theoretical threat. The climate system is now entering a phase of compound risk and cascading collapse, where disruptions in one area–such as crop failure–can trigger a domino effect across health systems, infrastructure, food security, and civil stability. We are already witnessing the early stages of this unraveling.

Immediate, radical action is now essential–not only to mitigate future emissions but also to adapt our societies, preserve habitable zones, safeguard food systems, and protect public health. The longer we delay, the higher the cost–economically, socially, and in terms of human life.

As a descendant of the Tribe of Judah, a world economist, scholar, and investigative journalist with decades of experience defending truth and human rights, I can state clearly that the claim “Israel owns Gaza, Judea, and Samaria by history, by law, and by moral clarity” is false and deeply misleading. Historical narratives do not grant modern legal ownership of land, especially when countless other peoples, including Palestinians, have lived continuously in these areas for centuries. While ancient Israelites lived in these regions, so did Canaanites, Philistines, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Ottomans, among many others, and modern international law, not selective historical interpretation, governs state borders and sovereignty today.

The fact is, there was never a historical “state of Israel” as understood in modern terms. The Tribe of Judah, along with the other eleven tribes, were originally nomadic groups moving throughout the region, never establishing fixed, sovereign borders recognized in the way modern nation-states are today. Over time, these tribes settled in various areas, loosely forming twelve tribal territories, but they always shared these lands with numerous other ethnic groups, including Canaanites, Philistines, Moabites, Edomites, and others who also lived, farmed, traded, and built communities there. Even when tribal confederations or kingdoms emerged, such as the united monarchy under David and Solomon (which itself is debated by historians regarding its size and centralization), these were short-lived and fragmented, and the land remained ethnically and culturally diverse. The narrative of exclusive, continuous Jewish sovereignty over the entire region is a modern nationalist construction that ignores the layered, pluralistic history of the land. Using this constructed narrative to justify the current displacement and oppression of Palestinians is a distortion of both history and morality.

It is deeply ironic and hypocritical that the most famous Jew in history, Jesus, became the foundation of Christianity. By the logic of the modern Israeli state, if heritage alone determined a state’s religious identity, then the ancient territory of Judah would be a Christian state today.

Legally, Israel does not “own” Gaza or the West Bank, which it refers to as Judea and Samaria. Gaza, while Israel removed settlers in 2005, remains under Israel’s effective control over airspace, sea, borders, and population registry, making it occupied territory under international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. The West Bank is similarly considered occupied, with the UN, International Court of Justice, and numerous legal experts affirming that Israel’s settlements and annexation efforts violate international law. UN Security Council Resolution 242 explicitly calls for Israel’s withdrawal from territories occupied in 1967, and no credible international body recognizes Israeli sovereignty over these areas.

The claim that “moral clarity from survival” justifies these actions is also misleading. Survival does not justify apartheid, ethnic cleansing, occupation, or collective punishment of millions of people. Framing the killing of civilians, the blockade of Gaza, and the systematic displacement of Palestinians as “moral clarity” erases the humanity of Palestinians and distorts the reality of their suffering under siege and occupation. As someone deeply committed to truth and justice, I affirm that Israel does not own Gaza or the West Bank legally, morally, or historically, and using survival as a blanket justification for violence and displacement is not moral clarity—it is moral deflection.

It is also important to highlight that many Jews of European heritage, particularly those from Western countries with no direct hereditary connection to the land, have been especially hypocritical in making these claims of ownership and moral superiority. In fact, Jews arriving from Europe and Western countries forcibly displaced and marginalized indigenous Jews—Mizrahi and Sephardic Jews—who had lived on the land for centuries before the establishment of the state of Israel. The state they created is not a democracy in any meaningful sense, as it fails to recognize equal human rights for all people under its control, enshrining Jewish supremacy over others in law and practice. The current Israeli government has also bombed Christian churches and killed Christian civilians. Shireen Abu Akleh, a prominent Palestinian-American journalist and a Christian, was executed on May 11, 2022, while covering an Israeli raid in Jenin in the occupied West Bank, illustrating that Israel’s violence extends beyond Palestinians of Muslim faith to Christians and others who stand in the way of its expansionist policies.

Some might argue it traces back to the Crusades, when European Christians waged brutal campaigns to capture Jerusalem from Muslim rule. Spanning from 1095 to 1291, the Crusades saw the First Crusade (1096–1099) succeed in capturing Jerusalem, while subsequent attempts to maintain Christian control led to centuries of bloodshed, with Jerusalem changing hands multiple times. Estimates of casualties range from one to three million deaths, with millions more injured or subjected to sexual violence.

Fast forward to 1948: the creation of the state of Israel displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, denying them the right of return to their homes. Since the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel has occupied and expanded settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, entrenching a system of apartheid and control over Palestinian lives.

Gaza Under Siege

On October 7, 2023, Palestinian militants launched an attack demanding an end to the siege and the open-air prison conditions of Gaza, where over two million people have been blockaded for years. In response, under the guise of “self-defense,” Israel launched what has become a systematic ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza.
