Star Explosion

A supernova was discovered in the night sky of London on January 23, 2014.

NASA says, “A supernova is the explosion of a star. It is the largest explosion that takes place in space.”

The explosion was first discovered by students and their teacher Steve Fossey at the University College London.

“It was a surreal and exciting experience taking images of the unidentified object as Steve ran around the observatory verifying the result,” UCL student Guy Pollack said.

International Astronomical Union General Secretary Thierry Montmerle said, “… it is one of the nearest supernova in modern time.”
